Since the end of the 90s, when slag was declared waste material and the dumping costs increased substantially, Demind decided to dedicate a lot of time and resources in order to create an added value to the slag and change its nature from waste to a commercial product. The result was the planning and erection of two specially designed plants for the various types of slag:

Treatment of EAF Slag
Production of material similar to gravel (several sizes) for civil and industrial application, substituting the basalt rock in the asphalt with slag, for road coating

Treatment of LF Slag
Cooling and treating slag in a closed, controlled and free emission plant, accurate recycling of steel, refractory crushing, in order to blow the product in the EAF, instead of lime.
